THE HOLLINGER JOCKSMART SPORTS FEST WILL HELP LOCAL ATHLETES PURSUE ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
- Thursday, July 30, 2009
A weekend of activities are planned for the inaugural Hollinger
JockSmart Sports Fest, a fundraising event to benefit the Ragin' Cajun Athletic
Foundation. The weekend begins on Friday
September 4th, 2009 with a Golf Challenge at the Wetlands Golf
Course. It continues Saturday, September 5th at a Breakfast Forum at
the Cajundome Convention Center with featured speaker
Myron Rolle. Rolle, a 2009 Rhodes
Scholar and 2010 NFL Draft Prospect will discuss the importance of athletes
receiving a solid education off the field and in the classroom. The weekend concludes on Sunday, September 6th
with a Doubles Tennis Challenge at City Club at River Ranch.
Event organizer and RCAF Board Member, Curtis Hollinger organized
this fundraiser in an effort to empower elite athletes to become better
students and achieve academic excellence.
He explains there are several objectives for the Sports Fest weekend. "We want to showcase and celebrate excellence
in athletics and education," Hollinger said. "We hope to accomplish this by exposing our elite athletes to the many
life opportunities available based on high academic achievement. The money we raise will help fund academic
support services, programs and initiatives within the UL Athletic Department."
Sponsorships are still available for businesses and
individuals. For more information on
